Local Production: The Espigas Workshop in Marseille
A community-driven, urban workshop in the heart of Marseille
In Marseille, the Espigas workshop is more than just a place of production—it's a place of connection.
Since 2017, we’ve been assembling our espadrilles in collaboration with the ESAT du Rouet, a medical and social care facility that enables people with disabilities to work in a supportive, empowering, and professional environment.
This isn’t a marketing pitch. It’s the foundation of how we choose to produce.
Every pair tells a story
Our espadrilles are handcrafted in the spirit of traditional craftsmanship. From cutting the fabric, stitching, to attaching the soles—each step is done with care, focusing on quality over quantity.
We don’t have a factory. We have a workshop, faces, names, and stories. And we believe that changes everything.
An alternative to “made far away”
Producing locally isn’t a whim—it’s a choice. At a time when products silently travel across the globe, we’ve chosen transparency and proximity.
Most of our fabrics come from Europe. Our soles are made just a few kilometers away. And the assembly? 100% Marseillais.
We know where our products come from—and so do you.
A textile workshop... and more
Since 2022, our workshop has also been home to prototypes from our Canal 16 Lab luggage line, made from decommissioned and recycled life rafts.
This is a natural extension of our approach: upcycling, innovating, creating locally—with limited resources and lots of ideas.

Visits & encounters
We believe in learning through experience. That’s why we regularly open the workshop doors to students, partners, or simply curious visitors passing through.
No secrets here—just talent, skilled hands, craftsmanship, and tools that truly get the job done.
