The "Suspended Pairs" Operation:
"60 Suspended Pairs Donated to the Women's Shelter"
Since May, the Espigas brand has launched a solidarity initiative in its Vieux-Port store called "Suspended Pairs." Inspired by the concept of "suspended coffees"—where people can buy a coffee for someone in need—Espigas offers a similar initiative: for every pair of shoes purchased, an equivalent pair is donated to someone in a vulnerable situation, identified by a Marseille-based association.
This solidarity gesture originated in the mid-20th century during World War II, and Espigas continues it through its Marseille-made creations, in collaboration with local associations selected in the Provence region. This initiative doesn't involve sales or discounts; instead, it engages customers in a solidarity-driven approach with no additional investment required.
It’s an initiative deeply embedded in the DNA of Espigas, which, since its creation 10 years ago, has been working hand in hand with artisans with disabilities and associations.
In early July, Bérengère and Olivier Perret, co-founders of Espigas, delivered 60 pairs (equivalent to €3,540 in donations) to L'Auberge des Femmes, coordinated by Armelle Cloteau. This shelter, located in the 8th arrondissement of Marseille, supports vulnerable women and children. The shelter is housed in a former youth hostel, provided by the city of Marseille.
The distribution took place in this unique welcoming and housing space, with the involvement of several associations, including Marseille Solution, which facilitated the connection. It was a true moment of sharing, carried out with discretion and humility, to help these women get back on their feet.
Encouraged by these results, Bérengère and Olivier Perret, along with the Espigas teams, are continuing the operation and will adapt it in the fall to meet the need for warm shoes (boots, etc.).
